The upper Shayok and Nubra rivers
drain the east and west sides of the Saser Spur, the eastern most outcrop
of the Karakoram. The name Nubra is applied to the district comprising
the valley of the Nubra river, and that of the Shayok both above and
below their confluence, where they meander in many shifting channels
over a broad sandy plain before flowing off to the northwest to join
the Indus in Baltistan.
From Delhi, We reach Leh and after over a day of acclimatization in
this enchanting Ladakhi town, we visit the local attractions and the
magnificent monasteries. Situated on the ancient caravan route, Nubra
valley in Ladakh has been recently opened for tourism.
We start our trek from Phyang village after visiting the Phyang monastery.
The trek passes over the barren and dry landscape as we cross over the
highest point at Lasirmo La (5,300 m). The high mountain pass offers
some spectacular views of the Karakoram, Ladakh and Zanskar ranges.
From Lasirmo La, the trail descends into the Nubra valley near Hunder
and from here the topology changes into a dry plateau. From here we
will be transferred by vehicle to Khalsar along the banks of Shiyok
River and passing through some remote villages and finally crossing
over Digger La (5200 m).
The high mountain pass offers the panoramic views of both Ladakh and
Nubra valley. Our trek finishes at the Saboo village and from here we
return to Leh for our flight to Delhi where we have an option of visiting
the magnificent Taj Mahal in Agra or spend the day in India's capital
city for individual exploration / relaxing.
